Time moves swiftly, often leaving us caught in its whirlwind without taking a moment to consider the essential questions. Instead of living deliberately and with clarity, we drift through life on autopilot. However, asking the right questions can expose profoundly transformative answers, shaping the very essence of our being.
Overview
Let’s explore 5 questions that will change your life:
What's my outcome?
What does it look like to win today?
What dream am I not pursuing?
What am I holding onto that doesn't serve me?
Who are the 5 people I want sitting next to me on my deathbed?
Let’s dive in!
1.) What’s my outcome?
Imagine a runner starting a race without a clue where the finish line is. They'd be running in circles, burning precious energy faster than a squirrel on caffeine.
But when that runner knows where the finish line is, it's like switching on turbo mode. They can focus all their energy like a laser beam, straight to that specific point.
Now, imagine if we approached life the same way.
Without clarity on our goals, we'd be as lost as a sock in a dryer.
Progress only happens when we know where we're headed and why.
So, let's play a quick game of reality check: If you keep doing what you're doing now, what's the result going to be? Is that the outcome you want?
If yes, awesome. Keep on keeping on. But if not, it's time for a shake-up.
Many of us numb our pain by sticking to familiar circles, even if they lead nowhere.
But here's the truth: staying comfortable only guarantees a stagnant life. We need to roll the dice and take a chance on building the future we want.
We can define new outcomes, break useless patterns, and start afresh. But before we dive in, let's ask ourselves: Where's our finish line?
Once we know, we can give everything we've got to that race.
2.) What does it look like to win today?
Life isn't just a single game; it's a warehouse filled with thousands of tables, each hosting its own unique game.
And here's the kicker: you get to choose which game to play, and even make the rules.
Sure, the world throws borders at us—news, politics, society—but they're just distractions. They make us think life's rigged against us, but that's a load of bull.
Winning isn't about those things; they're just magnets pulling us away from the games we truly want to play.
So, picture this: you're not chained to any table.
You can slide your chair back and move to a different game whenever you want. There are no limits, no rules, just endless possibilities.
And because you're the creator of your own game, you get to define what winning looks like.
You set the guidelines, you shape your environment, and you decide what success means to you.
So, as you step into your role as the master creator of your life, ask yourself: What does winning look like today?
3.) What dream am I not pursuing?
How many of you have shoved your dreams under a pile of papers, thinking, "I'll get to it tomorrow"?
If you're nodding or raising your hand while reading this, you're not alone.
In fact, a whopping 92% of people give up on their dreams.
Now, let's do some math. The average life expectancy in the U.S. is around 77.5 years. That's roughly 28,287.5 days.
Assuming most folks figure out their dreams by age 15, which is a rarity, that leaves about 22,812.5 days—almost 63 years—spent ignoring those dreams.
When the curtains finally close, those dreams flash before our eyes like a fading projector. And for 92% of us, it's too late.
Personally, that's not the final scene I want. I want to fade off with a smile, knowing I lived my dreams and spent quality time with my loved ones.
So, here's the wake-up call: our dreams die one "I'll get to it tomorrow" at a time.
All we have is now. We're breathing, living in the present moment.
We've been given this gift of life, so why waste it?
Commit to your dreams today. They don't have to stay a distant fairytale; they can become your reality. But it takes action—right here, right now—to make it happen.
4.) What am I holding onto that doesn’t serve me?
When I was a kid, a lot of summer weekends were on Cape Cod—sand, sun, and the joy of lugging beach gear across a scorching hot parking lot.
At Red River Beach we had our favorite spot, but getting there was a trek.
As my grandfather would say, it was the "healthy young kid's job" to haul everything across scorching hot sand, resulting in a way too many blisters.
After dozens of these trips, I had an epiphany. What if I packed lighter? Less stuff meant faster trips, fewer blisters, and more time enjoying the beach.
And you know what? Life's a lot like that beach trip.
We often carry unnecessary baggage—anger, jealousy, self-doubt—that slows us down on the path to our dreams.
So here's the advice: drop the dead weight.
Let go of what's holding you back, and watch how much faster you can sprint toward your goals and dreams.
5.) Who are the 5 people I want sitting next to me on my deathbed?
First off, here’s a bonus question to go along with this: “Do they know how much they mean to me?”
Love is the common thread weaving through every human heart. Whether it's the love for our work, friends, or family, we're all craving it in some form or another.
In order to receive that love, we have to give it out, too.
We can't assume our loved ones know how we feel—it's not like they have mind-reading powers.
We need to express ourselves, and let them know how much they mean to us.
This is how we pave a two-way street of love. And you know what happens next?
Those lanes start multiplying like rabbits, turning into a six-lane highway.
